    SERVICES TO VETERANS

    Employment Assistance for Veterans   An experienced and skilled veteran representative is available to provide individual and personal employment assessment & assistance to help veterans improve their job seeking skills. The Local Veteran Employment Representative ensure that veterans receive priority & preference in their job search. This individual will meet with veterans to develop an individual employability plan. In addition, the veteran representative can provide additional help through: Initial assessment of skills and abilities, assistance with employment search & career exploration, information about the local labor market job seeker workshops, referrals to state funded training such as TAA,W-2,and WIA/WAA, and referrals to skill improvement training.  The Local Veteran Employment Representative can assist veterans who face barriers to employment. If you need services outside the workforce development center, the veteran representative can refer you to an appropriate provider.  Local Veteran Employment Representative, Gary Meyer, can be reach directly by by calling (920) 232-6272.

    Dislocated Worker Services

    The Oshkosh Area Workforce Development Center is able to assist employers and workers who are being displaced. The OAWDC has comprehensive services including assessment, employment planning, training assistance and much more. Call 232-6200 and request more information from our dislocated worker consultant.


    Computer Training

    The Oshkosh Area Workforce Development Center has just added new computers to its Career Center. Learn how to use Microsoft Office 2000 and XP, develop a resume and cover letter. Price?     Adult Career Exploration/Job Training Experience

    The Center for Career Development and Employability Training (C.C.D.E.T.) at U.W. Oshkosh has created an exciting opportunity for young adults ages 18-21 that would like to explore and better understand the career and education options that exist after high school.
    At C.C.D.E.T. we have the ability to assist with:
    * Offer Career Exploration, Internships, and Job Shadowing Opportunities
    * HSED/GED completion through the Technical Colleges
    * Tuition payments
    * Career Assessments, Interest Inventories, and Tutoring Services
    * Educational and Training Resources

    Department of Workforce Development has just revised extremely useful job seeking publications! The publications are not only excellent publications but are available to you without a cost. The DWD publications are available on the Oshkosh Area Workforce Develpment Center website under Publications.


    Careers 4 Wisconsin

    New Career Website for Wisconsin! Careers4wi.org provides information on career opportunities in Wisconsin. The program offers an economic landscape of Wisconsin designed to encourage users to consider career and labor market information in job search and career exploration efforts. The program integrates career exploration and labor market information to tell a coherent economic story. Careers4WI Internet site provides labor market information (LMI) in an easy to understand and attractive format. It includes an extensive list of frequently asked questions and concerns people might have about the information. The program also contains the best links to resources that One-Stop customers need and a rationale for their use. You can access Careers4WI at the following home page: www.careers4wi.org


    Wisconsin Careers

    A new and exciting website is called Wisconsin Careers. This new site has the following programs:

    • Job Seeking
    Resume Preparation: Individuals can either develop a chronological or functional resume or combination of both.
    Self-Assisted Employment Seeking: Provides links between occupations of interest to a user and potential local employers. These links can be used in blind calls, job shadowing, informational interviewing, and other job seeking activities.
    Help in Becoming Employed: Offers numerous aids to help job seekers prepare for job applications and job interviews.


    • Career Development
    Information: A full-service career development site including occupations, educational preparation and institutions offering education and training.
    Assessment: Four on-line assessments, the new DOL Interest Profiler, Workplace Values, Transferable Skills and Workplace Skills.
    Financial Aid and Budgeting: Provides assistance in understanding and obtaining financial aid and in understanding the cost of living. Individuals can create budgets that reflect the lifestyle they would like to live and what kind of jobs are needed in order to do so..


    Wisconsin Careers is available to all Job Seekers FREE of CHARGE. You must go to the Oshkosh Area Workforce Develpment Center at 315 Algoma Blvd from 7:45 am through 4:30 pm to register and gain access.
